After a long time of doing a lot of things, noting related to electronics and the c64, I bought a soldering station. I have chosen an Aoyue 2702 (4-in-1) station as my first solderingstation. The price is ok and you have a lot of tools with this one station.
I’m hoping of getting the station within 48 hours.
For x-mas I got a dermal set and some other things. I think i’m ready to start this new adventure, in electronics.

well.. It has been some time now since I posted something here. Things i did since the last post is buying a bulk of C64 C-models. I know the first modification will fail so I need spare parts. Second is that I made my x-mas ‘thing I like the have’ list with all kind of things I will need to build my C64 laptop and also for my other projects like the midi player.
Why did it took so long for posting this you ask? I was very busy working on my photography graduation assignments. I graduated, so I may call myself ‘Photographer’ now.
First taking some time off from all things I want to do and begin next year it’s time to build some gadgets.

Back in the old days I owned an brown c64, an A-Model. But for this project I needed a smaller model like the C64-C. On marktplaats I found an old C-model and bought it for 12,50 (excl shipping). This model should be light (cream white) of color but this one is yellow. If i want you use this keyboard as well, I better start cleaning.

After the Roland MIDI Sound Canvas I also bought a Commodore 64 (C-Model) today on ebay. I already had a A-Model but the C-Model is smaller and better to use for an C64 laptop since I need it to be even smaller. I need to cut the motherboard in 2 parts. Well… This is why I need to buy more than 1. It still needs to come over from Germany to the Netherlands… I also hopes the keyboard is clean en still the same color as many year ago.

Today after a busy weekend I got an email that my bid on marktplaats was ok. The Roland MIDI sound canvas was mine to collect. I jumped in the car to see the item in person and listen to a demo tune. It sounded fine to me so they gave it to me (in exchange for some money). At home I connected the Roland to my MacBookPro to listen to some tunes at home. It sounded much beter than playing MIDI files on my computer.

Ok. Also for this little project I need thing. I only have microcontrollers but no MIDI Sound Module. So, the search begins. Searching on ebay, marktplaats (also from ebay but Dutch and less safe to buy). My eye hit a Roland SC55. An old sound module. Small and pretty good sound so it’s perect for my project.

Pretty right?
Well, it’s a small box and that what I need. Let’s wait and see if i’m able to ‘win’ a device like this for a cheap price.

I ordered an “Arcade RGB CGA to TV and Video Composite converter” from www.arcademvs.com since i learned that it can be used for the commodore 64 to connect it to an LCD monitor using s-video with exclent quality. Today I got an message that it has been shipped. That was a little quicker that I thought they send it. I still have to get other things of test it.

I’m still learning and searching about all the thing I need to do to get the c64 working on modern hardware so it is possible that I do some stuff which is not working al all. Lets find out!
